When I defended physicians and their practices as a medical malpractice attorney, I struggled to find the right words to say to make it better.
But the truth is, being sued stinks (to say the least). There is nothing I can say that will take away from the fact that the journey is tough and lengthy.
For years, I’ve been trying to pinpoint exactly what else I could do to make the experience better, what was missing from the resources that were already available to physicians.
And it finally clicked.
I realized that the medical malpractice process is just like running a marathon … but without the adequate resources, preparation and training. .. after you binged on a bag of Doritos, or Phish Food ice-cream, or whatever else is your choice of poison. Its no wonder the process feels so heavy.
But there is a silver lining. Embracing this analogy gives us a concrete place from which we can work backwards and create a roadmap.
If you are forced to run a marathon, what would you do to prepare for it?
